Counseling is compulsory and a legal requirement for any patient who feels they have the right to die at a time of their choosing and would love to benefit from the death with dignity act. This is because the state, and the professionals involved need to be certain, beyond reasonable doubt, that the patient’s decision is rational and not driven by fear, depression, frustration or bitterness.
